I agree that the neutral ending is the worst case scenario. It's why it's my favorite route in the game, easily. I really love how the good ending takes all of these ideas and suggests that loving and understanding are actually enough to handle them. Her release in art as a medium of understanding herself becomes nothing but a cruel, cruel lie. Rin, likewise, will take this idea of never being able to express herself and then dedicate herself to a profession that will constantly mock her with its tantalizing facade of self-expression. Hisao is fully capable of saying something at the end here, but he believes that it will not make a difference because he has no means of making Rin see who he truly is just as she has no means of making Hisao see who she really is. He breaks that belief in the neutral ending. We just use each other to alleviate that loneliness", even though Rin used to believe the opposite. Hisao makes Rin believe that "all people.are alone. Hisao forces Rin to believe that she will never get somebody to feel and to understand her, truly, for who she is. Hisao and Rin come to believe that drawing and talking are not and will never be enough to achieve as Hisao puts it in the last scene, "you affect other people and are affected by them, but in the end, you see everything the way only you do". Mainly, it's so distressing because it expresses a fundamentally depressing worldview that Hisao and Rin come to share: that everybody is alone, isolated in their own individual inexpressible sphere of existence in which it is impossible to communicate, impossible to reach outside yourself, impossible to touch other people. Yeah, Rin's neutral ending is really, really saddening, and not solely through the fact that Rin and Hisao don't end up "happy together". I got the good ending on my first try by the way. It's soooo frustrating.īlahhhh I don't even know why I'm saying this. She turns her back on her old life completely, destroying herself to build again as something that she's not.Īnd Hisao gives up. But instead she leaves, going off to Tokyo to an Art school, never to see Hisao or Emi ever again. I wanted Hisao to run up to her and say he was sorry, and to try and understand her. I think if anything, that's the thing I liked least about this route. It was so frustrating to play through, since I understood her. I think it's the fact that she admits she loved him, but Hisao couldn't understand her. Her neutral ending though was SOO much more depressing. It kinda foreshadows some scary stuff too that she might kill herself but there is no evidence of that. You get mad at her, and you walk away and forget about her. Rin spoilers: Rin's bad ending is pretty abrupt, just like Emi's. I've only played two routes so far, Emi and Rin, so don't spoil this about the other routes endings.
